I'm leavin on a jet plane...

Right now I am sitting in JFK International Airport in New York. I had a 4-hour layover and only had to walk about 40 feet to my next gate. It’s given me a minute to plug in and think about everything leading up to today- when I leave the country for the first time ever.

I am really super excited- It’s going to be amazing to get to see the world. But this summer has been a fun journey to get to where I am right now- and to where I am going.

I spent a great deal of time at Camp Christian- a place where God took a piece of Heaven and put it in Gordon, Georgia- because of what going there has always meant to me.

I had from Memorial Day weekend until yesterday at home- 5 weeks- and I spent 4 days of it at camp with 7-8-year olds, another weekend with people I grew up going to camp with, and an entire week with middle school boys and girls. Spending time at camp- and days with friends from camp who live close- was really grounding and amazing to go through as I set out on the journey of a lifetime.

I DID get some sewing done- I made one of the knit dresses I planned to, and re-drafted a pants pattern that my grandmother stitched up for me. I ended my time at home with a blessing at my church, lunch with people from church, and then a mini-shopping trip to Old Navy where I picked up a few really great things to take with me. I got 4 or 5 really cute tops and a great lightweight jacket that will go with everything. Lunch was pretty awesome because it was a bunch of seasoned travelers and I got to get advice from everyone there, and just see everyone and talk and laugh and it's a great great thing.

Well I think we board in the next few minutes- I have to pack up. Talk to you on the other side!

crunch time...

So there has been little to no sewing progress because I have found much more enrichment in spending my time this summer with people than with fabric... And that means I have to make a garment or more a day for the next 5 days. Up today is a knit dress and a refashion of an eyelet. Wish me luck!

I live on a farm.

I don't know if y'all knew that, but I do when I'm home. And this has been a pretty farm-life week in some ways... very country girl at times.
I am used to the quiet again, and adjusting to "town" being a minimum of 3 miles away nd not having more than 1 stoplight. And the big kitchen table my mom was raised sitting at... round, and easily seats 10. Trust me, it will hold more, especially small ones. And it makes for a GREAT cutting table... I cut out a dress, and will baste and fit and cut another before bedtime! From my very own pattern!
My mom also works at a dairy and I visited her one day last week to steal her away for lunch...
This calf I am petting in the photo is Dulce de Leche. I named her because she's caralmel-colored... She was born on Easter Sunday. Mom was working and I was on the phone with her. Seeing her, tiny by comparison to her friends, and getting to wear my cowboy boots, affectionately called sh*t-kickers as per their purpose in some settings, and having lunch with my mom made my day.
And celebrating birthdays made my weekend, and seeing a neighbor's foals will be making my afternoon! Off again.
